The Hillsbrad Foothills were a verdant region of farmland, meadows and small villages situated in the former human kingdom of Lordaeron. It is also home to the Alterac Mountains to the north. Its location outside of Thoradin's Wall makes it a common battleground between the Alliance and Horde. Following the cataclysm, the Horde overran the area destroying anything the Alliance once held. The once pastoral setting of rolling fields has been littered with mindless undead aberrations and abandoned plague tanks following the second Forsaken plague.
The music of Hillsbrad bears resemblance to that of the majority of the fallen kingdom of Lordaeron. This similarity extends beyond similar instrument choices, but also in the chord sequences which follow similar progressions. However, the once regal brass and liturgical choir arrangements have largely been replaced by stagnant growling lines, haunting discordant vocal melodies, and a lamenting string harmony. There are hints of more delicate woodwind and harp chords throughout the piece, reminding the player of the serenity that once filled the land. The echoes of the conflicts that continue to ravage the land are heard in the echoes of distant war drums and the repeated 'stabby' rhythms of aggressive strings, brass and male voice. This short and sharp performance technique is known as staccato and is commonly used in the portrayal of war and conflict through music.
